The midges defeated us this morning and we fled after a quick breakfast, but camping in the wild by the river went really well in all other ways. We had head nets that made things survivable!!
Wonderful sunny weather today as we descended from Drumochter Pass and into the Spey Valley. Some lovely spots and great cycling weather - sun on our backs and a cool wind.
Susan’s girl guiding proved its worth as she had brought tick removers that were needed to get three blood suckers out of her legs and hand.
And then the miracle. One mile from our destination the bearings in Susan’s crank disintegrated and we ground to a halt. A google search showed a bike shop in a town we had passed through BUT when we rang at 5:55 we got Ian Bishop who had retired to a house about 500 yards from where we were and from where he likes to help cyclists who pass.
Ian is a famous bike frame maker and after a lot of looking in his workshop he eventually found some parts that he made fit- and while he was doing this he invited us to pitch our tent in his field. So thank God for that. And no midges so far!!
Legs a bit tired tonight as look forward to the last leg - with a bike that still works.
Thanks for reading this !!
