But we aren’t complaining. After 10 days this was the first day we got properly wet with full waterproofs on all afternoon.
That apart today was a day of events. The midges were out in force over breakfast but we discovered that the Avon “so soft” kindly donated by Moira works by killing the beasties rather than repelling them - so now we are plastered in it, covered in dead midges but smelling lovely!
After a pleasant cycle the first event was the rear gear cable snapping so we are down from 27 gears to 3 and we stop every few miles to assess the route and reset which 3 we have available. It’s not been the problem it would have been a few days ago as its been steady gradients up and down.
The second event was meeting two chaps who were out searching for one of the men’s thirty year old son Finn Creaney who went missing several weeks ago. The police and rescue search found nothing but his father is out every moment he can searching in the hills. He was happy to talk and he was happy that we pray that he be found. Please join us in that if you are able.
The final event was seeing several salmon leap the falls in the River Shin near Invershin. The river was swollen by the rain and we only saw one fish make it (we think). Who’d be a Salmon as once up the falls there were loads of fishermen waiting,
It’s very wet still and all the accommodation round here is fully booked (we suspect that they aren’t taking people as they don’t have the staff - a common refrain). We have just had tea in a deserted visitor centre near the salmon leap - and we think we might stay put and put the tent up next to one of the unused shelters.
Thanks again for your support!! Bike repair tomorrow hopefully and then 55 miles to go to Inverness.
God bless
Susan and Stephen
You are both incredible - keeping your enthusiasm and humour through it all. Think of yourselves as that salmon battling up stream.
🤣 I’m so pleased to get a mention in your blog and that the SSS has come in useful! It sounds like this has been your most eventful day but again you’ve survived and all respect to you for being so positive about everything. You are a real testament to God‘s love and grace. 💕
You have braved it all - we are just in awe! Hope the bike can be repaired and you can do the last lap! Stay safe !
Sounds as if you have a good spot for a bit of shelter tonight. I will pray for that poor man who is searching for his son 🙏🏻. Your gears have done some very hard work over the last 10 days, hope you get them fixed tomorrow as you head back to civilisation. 😃
