Day 11 The weather won.

Oh dear - non stop proper rain until the early evening and we arrived on the Black Isle a pair of “ druicket rats” - very wet! Our Scottish readers will correct Stephen’s spelling.

We started off seeing some more Salmon try the leap up the river - can they swim/fly through heavy rain?

Lunch was had sheltering in a phone box!!

It was very nice mind you to have the pipe band turn out to welcome us to the Royal Borough of Tain. They were in their best waterproofs note.

We crossed the Cromarty Firth on a small two car ferry dodging several redundant oil rigs, some ocean going barges and a great big offshore wind turbine fabrication yard. Interesting but it was so wet!!

The Black Isle was hillier than we expected causing us some challenges with the gearing as the bike shop we were planning to visit was closed down, So we have been three gear wet wonders!

But we have met some lovely people. Susan “Spent a Penny” and a lady gave her 1000 pennies. A couple donated £20 because they had holidayed in Nepal and thought anyone cycling though todays weather deserved something. And the people camping next door made us hot cups of tea as we arrived dripping and cold.

Still - it’s dry now and tomorrow should be dry!! Just a short hop to Inverness hopefully to meet Marjorie and Dale at church.

Thanks again for your support and interest!!

Susan and Stephen

Your grandchildren are likely to ask: "What's a phone box?"

Here's hoping you are no longer gently steaming but are completely dry, and that you have an easy journey back home, whenever that will be.

Congratulations on a heroic effort.

What you’ve done is awesome. The ‘long’ Saturday in the kitchen a few months ago pales into insignificance!
