Day 12 Reflections

This was a lovely end to our Happy Home sponsored rides - we made it to church in Inverness with friends Marjorie and Dale and then lunch and a lift to Inverness airport

Sunrise over the Moray Firth.

That’s nearly 560 miles, over 28,000 feet of “up”, 8 nights of camping, 50 plus tics, many midge bites, wonderful scenery, lovely people, and only one disagreement (over what to eat for tea in a rainy Durness as the shop closed around us).

More to the point that’s the final sponsored ride for Happy Home. It’s a wonderful work creating a real and meaningful sense of family for children in Nepal rejected by their own. Giving the children a good start in life when the alternative was neglect and vulnerability.

The three years of sponsored rides coincided with a three year commitment to the Happy Home to guarantee the Board time to work out how to take their work forward in a way that needs less outside support. That has been hard for them to do as doing things differently, when what you are doing is working, is hard to think about - and covid hasn’t helped. The work will continue, and we will continue to provide funding (but not through sponsored rides) so that the work is able to change and develop well even if that means a transition to a new model.

If you are able please pray with us for the 20 children and young people presently part of the Happy Home family, for Buddhi and Subashna, house parents, and for the Board.

Finally, a big thank you to your for your sponsorship, prayers and encouragement. We do generally enjoy the rides, but we would rather not have to do the training, endure some of the wet and windy days, and toss and turn through uncomfortable nights. Your participation in this fundraising really has made the difference to us and the children that will benefit.

Once we have added in our donation (the money saved by camping) we will have reached nearly 2/3 of our funding commitment for this year. Thank you. Still not sure we deserved this send off though…..

God bless and thank you

Susan and Stephen

PS After a conference in Dale and Marjorie’s garden…..

Susan’s position is under threat…..

Congratulations 👏 You’ll be super happy to get home to your own roof and bed tonight. I hope you aren’t straight back to work tomorrow! Rest easy and sleep well with no nightmares about ticks and midges xx
