Day 8 and a recalibration of thought.

We shared our breakfast space, in a ‘hostel’, this morning, with a Dad with two very well behaved, one might say subdued little girls and, at a separate table, a heavily pregnant woman.

I don’t know why they were there but I think I can safely say they would have liked to be somewhere else and probably had little choice in the matter.

Our situation was stark in its difference... we chose to be there and are fortunate enough to be able to take time off work to do this crazy bike ride. So! Not sure that we’ve got quite as far as being thankful for bad weather but we do appreciate the health and strength that is allowing us to continue day by day.

Today was a day of canals and tow paths....the Trent Mersey Canal mainly so we made slower progress with all the low bridges and narrow restrictions.

This tunnel, Harecastle, is 1.5 miles long. It was the longest in the country at one time.....must be spooky to go through.

Lots and lots of locks....some prettier than others.

We finished the day having a delicious evening meal with Dilys and her sister Pat, long time supporters of the Nepal work. It was lovely to put faces to names.
