Day 4 The toughest day

Signal at last - so two posts tonight.

We hear it was windy in other parts of the country today - and up here it was one of those days when we had to pedal to go downhill and all afternoon we were straight into it!!

The pressure was in as we woke to discover 28 tics enjoying themselves in a fleshy part of Susan's anatomy and it took 90 minutes fiddling with a tic remover tool to get them all out!! So we had to press on.

But the scenery is spectacular and we had another sunny day to bring out the best as we skirted the west coast via Inverewe (beautiful national trust gardens); Aultbea (where the Russian artic wartime convoys set off from) and some spectacular gorges cut into the hillsides.

The people highlights of the day were getting a morning coffee and snack from Susan (Coffee and Bakes) in Poolewe who had heard of us from the generous gentleman who donated the cost of our fish and chip supper three nights ago!! Susan donated the cost of our morning coffees. We had another nice chat with a couple who donated - apparently THE Barry White and his wife Sheilagh. We’re not so sure.

We arrived in Ullapool at about 8pm very tired because of the wind and some brutish hills - and as we grabbed some food before heading off along the coast we spotted this beautiful spot!! Relief!! Here’s to a good nights sleep.

Thanks for your interest!!

loving reading your blog! Sorry to hear about the tics!

As an Irish blessing says- 'may the road rise to meet you, may the wind be at your back! ...'

Lovely reading your blog from the comfort of our own home! I hope the weather keeps fine (I doubt it as I think there is a storm coming. That was told me by a friend who is sailing off the Hebrides. Or he could have been telling a little fib as an excuse for missing a committee meeting!!) and the wind direction becomes more Hammersley friendly.

You two are made of the sternest stuff ! So glad the wonderful scenery and the generosity of folk are antidotes to the tough times. Willing you on!
